Hi, I'm MADELEINE.

Tunnel Mountain Ceremony and Calgary Reception at The Pioneer on Stephen Avenue

Feb 5, 2020

When J + J asked me to be their wedding planner I was so excited. When the bride let me know I could have nearly full creative control I was ecstatic. Her three requests for her wedding were incorporating rose gold, lots of flowers and an elevated boho aesthetic. We started praying for good weather in the middle of June and got to designing both their mountain ceremony and city reception.

The day of their wedding was absolutely perfect. A slight drizzle in the morning that cleared by the time the rentals arrived at Tunnel Mountain Reservoir, the slightly overcast sky made for the moodiest of photos. The pianist starting playing and our bride escorted by her mother began her walk down to the floral covered arch to meet her soon to be husband. Her veil blew in the wind and she just glowed, we got a few tears out of our groom too!

“It will always be you” – Jordan

“As Winnie the Pooh said, if you live to be a hundred I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you” – Jesse

We got a slight sprinkle of rain right after the ceremony before clearing up again for portraits. Can we talk about how amazing Tunnel Mountain Reservoir is for not only ceremony but for your bridal party portraits too?

J + J headed to Lake Minnewanka with Jade Gabrielle Photography for their intimate portraits. The bride had seen some of Jade’s shots here from other weddings and knew she wanted a similar feel! Her silk chiffon skirt caught the wind and the coral peonies in her bouquet popped in the photos!

While the bridal party finished up their portraits in the mountains, guests made the drive back to downtown Calgary for the cocktail hour and reception at The Pioneer on 8th. We absolutely LOVED this space, it has a minimalist, industrial vibe that allowed us to create exactly the aesthetic J + J wanted. We used the 9 foot tall moveable wall for the seating chart with vinyl lettering from Bexley Design Co and greenery hanging from the top. On the other side was the dessert table topped with candy and sweets from Pretty Sweet Bakeshop.

Take a peek at all the floral installs done by Flowers By Janie, you should be able to count four large format installations! Not including the head table and of course the greenery and peonies down all the guest tables. For the tables we went with rose gold chargers, matching rose gold flatware, peach napkins, white table linens and plum taper candles. The clear carousel water goblets brought a different texture to the glassware.

We used the entire main floor for the dinner reception for 126 guests. The upper level was the cocktail space with soft seating covered in cozy furs and blankets with a bar serving signature drinks by Hotel Arts Catering. The lower level with its lofted ceilings were used for our dance floor and of course a few cocktail tables to place your drink when your fav song comes on! Thanks to Local DJ, once the dance floor got going it was hard to get anyone to leave! The floral covered staircase was not only stunning to look at when you went to grab a sangria, but also where we had the MC and those giving speeches so they would have a gorgeous background to stand in front of!

We could not have made J + J’s dream wedding happen without such an amazing vendor team. Check them out below!

Hi there my names Jason and I’m getting married here in a few months. I was just wondering if you can greatly share the dimensions for the wedding arch. My soon to be wife loves that and I’m a wood worker so I’d like to make this for her.

Hi Jason! Unfortunately the arch was a rental so I don’t have the dimensions to share with you!
